Fiber Combination Technician
Plant – Ullin, Illinois
WK&T Telecommunications Cooperative a leader in broadband communications, voice, video and home security is seeking experienced applicants with strong technical and networking skills.
Knowledge of fiber optics, computer hardware, software, wireless protocols, and information technology is required for the following full-time position:
Primary responsibilities include: Installation, splicing, location, and maintenance of fiber optic equipment at customer premise. Includes drop wires, station protectors, and network interface devices, and may include initial wiring or rewiring for new subscriber systems.
High School diploma with two years of telecommunications education or equivalent work experience. Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or proficient knowledge in fiber optics, security alarm systems, and/or A+ certification a plus; good customer skills and a good driving record also required.

Combination Technician (Full-Time)
Plant – Mayfield, KY
General Summary
Placement and maintenance of underground and aerial cables, programming and troubleshooting of various internet, security, IPTV, and telephone services as well as data networks. Installation of business communication systems and residential wiring. Splicing, locating, maintenance of cables and other facilities.
Essential Job Functions
- Receives service orders and necessary equipment used in installing, upgrading, or changing a customer’s telephone service or equipment.
- Receives locate tickets and uses maps to perform locating and repairing of all facilities.
- Able to identify and assist with new technologies (streaming services/home automation/security).
- Able to analyze/troubleshoot/repair home and business networks
- Installs, removes or makes changes in residential and business service per service order.
- All documentation of truck rolls will be provided and updates as needed.
- Installs ground protection for unwanted electrical surges.
- Performs all installation techniques necessary to ensure neatness and concealment where possible of wires leading to telephone instruments.
- Reports any changes to Service Order/Trouble Tickets to Dispatcher/Engineering in order to maintain OSP record.
- Installs concealed telephone wire and other equipment at buildings under construction.
- Maintains residential and business telephones from customer trouble reports.
- May install and maintain equipment for diversified teleco services.
- Repairs all types of trouble on cable plant, drop wire, station wiring, ont’s, and telephones.
- Makes trouble tickets and maintains time sheets and vehicle/safety records.
- Proficient at splicing, installing, and repairing facilities, including buried and aerial fiber optics. Includes cross-connect boxes, pedestals, enclosures, and building terminals.
- Proficient in installing/grounding/bonding/repairing of all pedestals, enclosures, and fiber optic cable.
- Ability to inspect/repair existing facilities and/or communicate needs of repair.
- Comply with procedures that assist with reporting.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned by management.*

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic electronics, specification sheets, and circuit diagrams.
- Knowledge of computer hardware, software, wireless protocols, basic networking, PC and smartphone applications.
- Knowledge of telecommunications plant equipment operations and maintenance.
- Knowledge of company products and services.
- Knowledge of company policies and procedures.
- Skill in operating service equipment including various hand tools and testing equipment.
- Ability to communicate with co-workers and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, and operating and maintenance instruction manuals.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail.
- Ability to evaluate, test, and repair sophisticated equipment.
- Ability to improve or redesign procedures for specific installation/repair problems.
- Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions using information at hand.
- Skill in reading cable schematics, maps, fiber count reports and verification reports
- Ability to drive a company vehicle daily. Good driving record.
- Ability to represent the company by selling products and services offered by the company.
- Ability to effectively function as a team player.
- Ability to pass and maintain DOT physical.
- Ability to learn telco area and navigate workload efficiently.
- Ability to receive Level 1 security certification.
- Ability to identify color(s).
- Ability to climb poles and work from heights/overhead.
- Ability to be on call and respond to call out in required amount of time.
