At its inception, the social media landscape was primarily used to share pictures and personal thoughts with your friends, family, co-workers and classmates.  Now, you can also use your Facebook and Twitter accounts to connect with your favorite celebrities, places of businwomen-using-computeress and complete strangers that share the same interests as you.

And what is possible via the social media platforms continues to evolve almost daily.  Every time I log on, there seems to be some new feature vying for my attention.  For example, Pizza Hut just announced this week that it will begin accepting orders via Facebook and Twitter next month.  So while you’re sharing your favorite recipes, posting pics from your recent vacation, or chatting about the big game, go ahead and place an order for dinner while you’re at it.  Pretty convenient, huh?

Of course, you might have heard about that little presidential election coming up later this year.  Well, Facebook recently announced that it will once again participate in the debate process by allowing its users to submit questions for the candidates seeking your vote for the highest office in the land.  I think that’s pretty cool.  Its just another way social media is bringing people together to participate in a very significant event.

Sure, all of these social media applications can be a little overwhelming for those of us that are technology deficient, but more and more of us are getting off the sidelines and jumping headlong into the deep.  A recent study by Statista predicts that there will be around 2.55 billion social media users by 2018, up from 1.8 billion in 2014.

If you’re not yet among the counted, there’s no time like the present to learn, grow and connect online.  WK&T is proud to give you that opportunity on our fiber network, and we look forward to partnering with you for many more years to come.

Now go ahead and share that pic.  You know you want to.  :)
